Women’s soccer defeats Austin Peay in 2-0 match

The Lipscomb women’s soccer team defeated the Austin Peay State Governors by a score of 2-0 in front of a home crowd of over 150 fans. One goal in each half was sufficient for the Bisons to earn their second victory in their first two matches this season after beating Mississippi State on Thursday. Redshirt freshman Kale’a Perry scored the opener in the 27th minute for Lipscomb, while Cami Rogers helped secure the result in the 64th minute with a goal of her own. The Bisons held firm control of possession across both halves, sticking to a familiar style of midfield pressure that stifled Austin Peay throughout. Junior and Auburn transfer Cami Rogers as well as Roswell, Georgia-born redshirt freshman Evee Reeder were instrumental in that effort for Lipscomb. They stifled the middle of the park and created opportunities going the other way for the Bisons to get forward. Even with the loss of fellow center midfielder Kelli Beiler to injury within five minutes, the central midfield partnership of Rogers and Reeder was more than enough to set the tone and allow the home side to dominate. Despite the reassuring performance of those two, however, Beiler’s injury is still a major concern for Lipscomb. The junior from Mount Pleasant Mills, Pennsylvania led the team with nine goals while playing 1,000 minutes for Lipscomb last year. Her injury appeared to be serious, as she was unable to leave the pitch on her own power with what appeared to be an issue with her lower leg. In the attack, it was a similar story for the Bisons, as they outshot the...
Lipscomb bounces back against in-state opponent Austin Peay with midweek win

Lipscomb bounces back against in-state opponent Austin Peay with midweek win

After getting swept by the North Alabama Lions on the road over the weekend, the Lipscomb Bisons took care of business Tuesday night against the Austin Peay Governors winning 14-7. Sophomore pitcher Caleb Williams got his first start of the season, and despite allowing two Govs batters on base to start the 1st inning, he did not allow any runs in his two innings of work and got the win for the Bisons.  Williams was the first of eight Lipscomb pitchers on the afternoon, a rotation that included freshman pitcher Patrick Williams, junior pitcher Wyatt Folsom, freshman pitcher Bryce Einstein, freshman pitcher Tanner Morgan, sophomore pitcher Tyler Sills, freshman pitcher Ike Buxton, and junior pitcher Tyler Drabick. The Bisons started the scoring in the first inning with three runs from senior infielder Haddon Adams, freshman infielder Tiger Borom, and senior infielder Chris Bashlor. A two-RBI single from sophomore catcher Chaz Bertolani as well as a two-run home run from Bashlor extended Lipscomb’s lead to seven. A scoreless third inning finally put an end to Lipscomb’s scoring barrage, and Austin Peay responded in the fourth and fifth innings with a 6-0 scoring run to cut the Bisons’ lead to one. But, Lipscomb responded with a seven-run, 12-batter sixth inning to put the game out of reach for the Governors.  Bashlor and Bertolani led the Bisons with four and three RBIs, respectively.  With this win, the Bisons have improved their record to 8-11. Lipscomb returns to action Thursday at Dugan Field for their third conference series of the season against ASUN-newcomer Bellarmine in a three game series. All three games can...

Lipscomb splits series with Creighton after Sunday afternoon victory

Lipscomb splits series with Creighton after Sunday afternoon victory

After going across town to play Belmont, Creighton returned to Dugan Field Sunday afternoon. Coming off of their Friday afternoon victory and a split at Belmont, Creighton fell to the Bisons 7-5, after not capitalizing on runners in scoring position.  Freshman pitcher Logan Van Treeck got the start for the Bisons and quickly fell behind the hot hitting Blue Jays, allowing two extra bases hits including an RBI in the first two at bats of the game. But Van Treeck quickly regained his composure and struck out the next three batters in a row.  Creighton was able to stop the one, two, and three batters for the Bisons and bounced back in the second inning with another run but once again Van Treeck responded by sending the next three batters to the dugout.  A two-run homer from sophomore preseason all-conference catcher Chaz Bertolani that brought home freshman infielder Malik Williams tied the game for the Bisons in the second, and they added to the lead in both the third and fourth innings bringing their lead to 5-2. The Blue Jays stranded runners in both the fourth and fifth innings and struggled all afternoon bringing home runners in scoring positions due to dominant pitching from Lipscomb. Van Treeck pitched the first 5 innings before junior transfer pitcher Tyler Drabick came in in the sixth inning in relief. Drabick made quick work of the Blue Jays in the 6th innings but allowed the first two batters to reach base in the seventh, which prompted Bisons pitching coach to bring in sophomore reliever and preseason All-ASUN selection Tyler Guilfoil to close out...

Men’s tennis comes back from Clarksville with first win of season

After losing its opener last week, the Lipscomb men’s tennis team practiced hard in preparation for the second match of the season. The Bisons’ efforts pulled through today and gave them a 7-0 win over Austin Peay University. The Bisons (1-1) took charge of the doubles play and won the doubles point, which started Lipscomb off with a lead against Austin Peay. Playing on the first line, Victor Chaw and Pablo Caffarena began their match with a lead against Austin Peay’s Almantas Ozelis and Anton Damberg. They refused to let the Governors duo catch up to them and kept scoring point after point until they pulled out the Bisons’ first win of 6-2 in doubles. “Me and Pablo are playing fantastic doubles,” Chaw said. “We have an amazing energy every point. I don’t think there’s any pair in the nation that plays with more intensity than us, and that’s why we dominate so much in doubles.” Francesco Tacconi and David Skrabut, playing on third, were leading but were unable to finish their match when Jorge Ortegon and Pedro Uribe, on second, won their 6-2 set against Timo Kiesslich and Jacob Lorino, clinching the doubles point for Lipscomb. Chaw also said that he thinks the Bisons have to improve matches week-by-week. “[The Bisons] aren’t really where [we] want to be…yet,” Chaw said. “If [we] keep improving the little stuff, by conference time [we] will be a very solid team but have to put in the work week-by-week.” With the aggressiveness and competitiveness that played out in doubles, the Lipscomb Bisons carried those emotions over to singles play. On the fourth...
