Lipscomb fans enjoy NIT semifinal in Bison Cafe

Lipscomb’s Office of Student Life hosted an NIT watch party in the Bison Cafe center Tuesday to allow students, faculty and alumni to gather together for the Lipscomb-Wichita State semifinal showdown on ESPN. At least 250 faithful Lipscomb supporters turned out for the party.  The Bisons beat the Shockers 71-64 to advance to the NIT championship game, where they will face the Texas Longhorns Thursday at 6 p.m. CT. Lipscomb had about 400 supporters on the ground in New York, but the rest of the fans were in Bennett Campus Center or watching at home. The first half of the game went smoothly and the noise from the Bisons fans grew as the team quickly gained a lead and finished the half leading 35-30. The crowd initially had around 150 fans, but it continued to grow around halftime. The fans spent halftime enjoying popcorn, raffles, snacks and dinner in the Lipscomb cafeteria while chatting about the fate of their beloved Bisons. Going into the second half, the crowd had grown to around 250 people and the chatter of the fans grew with the size. The Bison fans were on the edge of their seats for the majority of the second half watching as the team played out of rhythm for the first portion of the second half. The Shockers gained a 61-50 lead with six minutes left,  and Lipscomb fans began to draw weary. But a clutch three from senior Nathan Moran brought the crowd back to life. Sodexo staff serves students, even on snow days

Lipscomb canceled classes twice in the first several days of the semester. Students took the opportunity to go sledding on the soccer field and play in the snow. But essential Lipscomb employees were still expected to show up to work as usual. Bison Cafe remained open and maintenance services were still available thanks to the work of these dedicated staff. Campus dining services are contracted through Sodexo, a food service company based in France. Sodexo’s General Manager of Dining Services Wolcott Fary said employee schedules do not stray from the norm when bad weather is predicted. “Most of the folks that we have working for us here, upstairs and downstairs, really are dedicated and committed,” Fary said. “They are not just dedicated and committed to Sodexo because that’s their employer, they really feel more aligned with the university. Most of the folks that work here are here because they care about the university.” Fary said that in most cases, employees only miss work if they cannot make it to campus due to road conditions. Even when school is canceled, employees are aware that there are still students to serve. It’s not an easy decision for them to say they can’t make it. “I think everyone from someone like Lanie, who is one of our supervisors, to anybody who is working making the pizza or Marvin in the back doing the catering work, they’re all going to come here because they’re professionals,” Fary said. “They believe that their role here for us is important, not just for what we do as Sodexo, but how it affects the University.” Several employees worked...

With Super Bowl XLIX quickly approaching, many Lipscomb students jumped at the opportunity to share their opinions on the game. On the other hand, some did not. This year’s matchup will feature the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks, who won Super Bowl XLVIII. The recent controversy on whether the Patriots deliberately used under-inflated footballs against the Indianapolis Colts in the AFC Championship game has sparked much attention from fans. Lipscomb Dining serves up changes for new school year

Students entering the 2013-2014 school year may have immediately noticed the changes to Lipscomb’s meal plans upon returning to campus. In the past, Sodexo, Lipscomb’s dining company, offered meal plans with a set number of  Bison Café meals and dining dollars per semester. This year, Sodexo has changed the meal plans to offer a set number of meals per week and a set number of dining dollars per semester. The company has also added the Bison Bucks system, a program that allocates funds to be used at select Lipscomb and off-campus locations through the use of new ID cards. Although the meal plan for Village residents is the only one that currently includes Bison Bucks as a part of the package, any student can purchase Bison Bucks with their own money online. As this is the first semester for Bison Bucks, some students are currently contemplating the benefits of taking part in the new program. According to Wolcott Fary, Lipscomb’s Food Service General Manager, there are three main benefits to Bison Bucks. Budgeting: “It’s geared to you personally,” Fary said. Fary suggested that is a good way for students to budget their money by knowing exactly how much they have to spend. Future specials: Although there are no automatic price reductions on products bought with Bison Bucks, Fary ensures that this is an investment in these restaurants, and he foresees some specials for student’s benefit could be added in the future. “The restaurants, as we get rolling with it, will probably run some specials that will only be available to folks with Bison Bucks. That will be up to them specifically,”...
