Another year, another successful season for the Men’s and Women’s Cross Country programs. The Women scored 21 points in the Atlantic Sun Championships to secure their fourth consecutive conference title. Madi Talbert, Paige Stoner, and Dani Walker swept the top three spots, taking first, second and third respectively. All three runners, along with Sally Larson who finished sixth overall, earned spots on the A-Sun All-Conference First Team. Stoner was also named A-Sun Freshman of the Year. Barbara Lee Ball, Kayla Montgomery and Minna Fields took spots on the All-Conference Second Team. Ball and Montgomery finished ninth and 13th in the A-Sun Championship. The Men’s team also had a stand-out day in route to winning their second A-Sun Championship in a row. Juan Gonzalez, Daniel Gardner and Christian Freeman took third, fourth and fifth place in the competition. All three also placed on the A-Sun All-Conference First Team. The Bisons fourth and fifth runners, junior Jared Wingerter and sophomore Jared Daedler, both set personal records in route to finshing ninth and 15th overall. Wingerter earned a spot on the All-Conference Second Team. “Jared Wingadner had a great race,” head coach Benton Reed said. “He passed two Northern Kentucky guys in the end with an awesome finish. I knew Jared Dadeler was going to have a good race because he just kept on moving up throughout the race and by the end he was where he needed to be and it really made the difference for the team. The Postgame brings you up-to-date on all of Lipscomb’s sporting events. Fall sports are in full swing, and the Bisons are finding success in October. WOMEN’S SOCCER The Lady Bisons soccer team is 3-1-1 in the month of October. Lipscomb tied with North Florida 0-0 after two overtimes. On Oct. 5, the Lady Bisons defeated Jacksonville 1-0, then traveled to Stetson to pick up a 4-2 victory on Oct. 10. Two days later, Florida Gulf Coast got the best of Lipscomb 2-1. However, the Lady Bisons bounced back getting a 4-0 shutout against USC Upstate. Junior Anna Lail has scored five goals in October, which has earned her two Atlantic Sun Player of the Week honors. Freshman Elizabeth Ashwood recorded her first goal as a Lady Bison against USC Upstate. Lipscomb has clinched a spot in the A-Sun Championship tournament for only the second time in program history. The Lady Bisons will play their final regular season game Oct. 24 against Northern Kentucky at the Lipscomb Soccer Complex. The seniors will be honored as part of Senior Day. MEN’S SOCCER The men’s soccer team sits in third in the A-Sun with seven points. The Bisons posted a 1-0 win over North Florida on Oct. 18. Junior Reece Holcombe scored a goal in the 56th minute off a pass from redshirt junior Matt Kerridge. On Oct. 11, Lipscomb fell 3-1 to Stetson. Senior Luke Gearin scored the Bisons lone goal. Success has been something that Lipscomb Track & Field has had a taste of this year and it’s 2014 Indoor Atlantic Sun Championship was no different. The indoor conference championship was held at the JDL Fast Track in North Carolina this year. The men finished with their best ever in third place beating their old record of finishing in fifth. The women finished fifth, tying their best ever. Junior Kenny Smith is a member of the 4×400 relay team that picked up first place at the meet and is a veteran when it comes to the team’s success. “I feel that every year the team fights more and more for each other. When I say that, we fight for every point we can get,” Smith said. “This season the men’s team got the most points we have ever got. It shows we are going in the right direction.” Smith, along with Tucker Peabody, Brian Gentry and Colin Dempster are the men’s 4×400 meter relay team. A team effort led to a time of 3:18.57. For the second year in a row, Peabody won the 200 meter dash and came in second place in the 60 meter dash. Two stand out freshman are Wayne Newman and Christian Freeman. Newman earned the 1st place title in 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.07. Freeman placed 3rd in the men’s 500 meter and 2nd in the men’s 300 meter. With his finishing times, he was able to set new school records in both of these events. As for the women, Dani Walker was named most valuable performer for her second year in a row....

Lipscomb’s women’s and men’s cross country teams are each Atlantic-Sun Conference Champions. The victory for the women’s cross country team makes this their third consecutive time winning conference. For the men, they’ve earned their first A-Sun title. Coming into the race, both teams were ranked number one in the coaches’ poll. Lipscomb’s men and women had four runners finish in the top seven. The top runner for the women’s team was freshman Sally Larson, who finished fourth in the race. “It’s awesome to have conference on our home course,” Larson said. “We have really fought with everything we had today. It was great to have so much school support here. I’m just thrilled for our team, and I’m really looking forward to the next 3 years here.” Besides helping the Lady Bisons win conference, Larson has been named Freshman Runner of the Year. Juan Gonzalez also had been named Freshman Runner of the Year from the men’s team. “Everyone was ready for this. We have been training so hard from summer up until now,” Gonzalez said. “We all knew this was going to be a hard race, but in the end, we were going to do whatever it took to finish.” Gonzalez and Larson ended their interviews giving all the credit to the Lord by saying, “All the Glory be to God.” Coach Bill Taylor was named both the A-Sun women’s and men’s coach of the Year.
