Happy New Year, Lumination readers! Now that the new year’s resolutions have been made and the first day of 2015 is here, we want to take a hop back in time to look at some of Lipscomb’s biggest moments of 2014. Before we get to the top 10 stories, we want to take a moment to honor those we lost in 2014. Alumni Andrew Nash, Anastasia Sloan, Meghan Day and Jacob Akers, and associate professor of pharmacy practice Kim Barker and longtime faculty member Earl Dennis all passed away. As we begin a new year, we would like to keep those listed and their families in our thoughts and prayers. Quite a few stories made it close to the top 10. They include a few annual events, special guests and people in new positions of leadership. In December, Amy Grant hosted the tenth annual Lighting of the Green in Allen Arena. This year, a scholarship was created in Grant’s honor. During the spring, the fifth annual Charlie Daniels’ Scholarship for Heroes concert brought country music stars and fundraising to Allen Arena once again. Also in 2014, the Dove Awards returned to Lipscomb for its 46th ceremony. In November, the Lipscomb community came together at one of Nashville’s premier venues: The Ryman. Nashville’s Charles Esten joined the program “Lipscomb: On a New Stage,” and even performed a few tunes, too. Also in 2014, Lipscomb welcomed Darrin Bellows as the new director of security and safety and Josh Roberts as the new dean of student development. Intercultural club Kappa Iota Theta will be presenting Stomp Fest, with the theme “Evolve,” Nov. 20 at 9 p.m. This will be Stomp Fest’s fifth year on campus and the competition is already heating up, according to a member of Sigma Iota Delta, last year’s winner of Stomp Fest. “My favorite part of stomp is the competition,” said Drew Watson, a senior. “People get really into it and the rumors that get started about the groups are really funny.” The rumors Watson is referring to are about everything from a group’s theme to what music is being used. Besides friendly rivalries, the competition brings group members closer together. “It is a really good time to get closer with the group you are with,” said Kaela Pennington, a member of Phi Sigma. “It is smaller than Singarama, so everyone has to put in equal amounts of work for something great to come together. It is a side of Lipscomb that isn’t really showcased, and allows a different type of talent to come out.” The competition sets social clubs and other Lipscomb groups against one another to be judged on theme, step intricacy, music, and dance numbers. Each group only has ten minutes for their whole routine, which sometimes includes an introduction video. “It’s so much fun because we come up with our own themes, costumes, dances, chants, stomps, etc. and it really gives everyone an opportunity to contribute something,” said Virginia Jackson, a member of Phi Sigma. “For Singarama we are paired with other groups, and so Stomp Fest is the one time of year that we get to perform...

In the final round of elections held for the upcoming school year, a new class of senators at-large has been selected, and two students have been given the prestigious Miss Lipscomb and Bachelor of Ugliness titles. For the senators at-large, Hannah Passamonte, Kimberly Keen, Julia Allen, Lauren King, Ezra Fritz, Margaret Rox, Caroline Hensley and Ben Ashley have been elected into those roles. King was also selected to be Miss Lipscomb. Matt Hogan was chosen to be the Bachelor of Ugliness. This follows last week’s election results, which saw Drew Watson elected as the SGA president and Seth Carey voted to the VP role. The second to last newscast of the 2013-2014 academic year is here. This week brings coverage of the SGA debate and more. Madeline Smith and Aaron Schmelzer are behind the news desk during this week’s installment. Drew Watson is the new elected president and will serve during the 2014-2015 academic year. After a runoff, Seth Carey was elected vice president and Jamie Keiser secretary. On other news, the Lipscomb family gathered to serve the community. D’Nashia Jenkins has a report on the different organizations that were impacted by Lipscomb students. Singarama, one of the biggest events on campus, was held in Collins Alumni Auditorium from April 3- 5. Seth Carey and Jamie Keiser have been elected to the vice president and secretary roles for the 2014-2015 school year respectively in SGA’s runoff elections held Thursday.Carey said he is happy his hard work has paid off. “It feels great,” Carey said. For his first actions in-office, Carey said he looks to continue the work of the incumbent officers, zeroing in on an initiative to place water stations on campus. “The first thing I’d want to look to do is to see what the executives had in place from last year and just to see, kind of, what they want to continue and what they kind of hit a dead end on,” Carey said. “A big thing that we’ve been working on is water stations across campus, so that’s the first thing we definitely want to take a look at just to see if that’s still possible.” Wednesday, Drew Watson was voted SGA president, and Melissa Parrish was voted as treasurer.
