Lipscomb clubs, Delta Omega and Theta Psi host the Full Moon Festival each spring semester to raise money for a different mission. This year the clubs raised $6,700 for “The Mission of Youth Encouragement Services (YES).” The mission of yes is to “enrich the lives of children in Inner City Nashville, helping them to develop academically, physically, spiritually and socially.” The event functions as a philanthropy event but also united the student body through music. Throughout the evening, from 6 pm till 9 pm, students perform high-end karaoke with a live band and singing songs they have rehearsed. There is dancing, fun, and music all geared around a 50’s theme. On Friday night, Lipscomb students stepped back in time for the second annual Full Moon Festival in the Student Activities Center. Organized by social clubs Theta Psi and Delta Omega, the fifties-themed dance raised awareness for Lipscomb’s drug and alcohol policy, providing students with a fun, drug and alcohol-free environment. “We’re doing a fifties theme each year,” said Delta Omega president Makenzie Kanyuh. “It will always stay that way, but we plan on constantly changing around the overall theme.” This year’s theme had a classic movie twist. The dance floor showcased posters for classic films like “Gone With the Wind” and “East of Eden.” The event was bustling with students dressed in ’50s and ’60s clothing. Popular elements of the evening included an ice cream float station, a photo booth and a live band. The clubs began planning the dance at the beginning of the spring semester, but the actual set up for the Full Moon Festival didn’t begin until Friday morning. “I had the roots set from last year, but it was a lot of work,” said Theta Psi social coordinator Cody LaRochelle. “I couldn’t have done it without the help from everybody.” Proceeds from the festival went to Good Spread, a peanut butter company that donates food to malnourished...

The 50s may be long gone, but Lipscomb’s own social clubs, Theta Psi and Delta Omega, are revisiting the era. The clubs will hold the school’s first Full Moon Festival, scheduled for Saturday, Mar. 8, from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. in the Student Activities Center. Theta Psi’s president, Zach Bowen, had the idea for a 50s/60s prom dance, and the idea evolved into a festival with plenty of attractions such as swing dancing, a live band, ice cream floats, a soda station, photo booth and corn hole. The live band consists of all Theta Psi members, split into two separate bands. They will performing songs from the fifties and sixties, as well some songs from the seventies, eighties and nineties. The festival has a specific purpose, as Theta Psi social planner Everett Davis explained. “We’re trying to unite everybody in our good, clean fun event,” Davis said. The event also has an important mission at its core involving the university’s drug and alcohol awareness policy. “We want to stand in support of the drug and alcohol awareness policy of our school in a way that shows we can all have a great time while still keeping in step with the mission,” the event’s Facebook page reads. Theta Psi had partnered with Delta Omega for the event. The girls’ club has helping financially, as well as helping set up the event and paying for some things. “We’ve done a few things with [Delta Omega] before, and we thought that they’d want to be a part of it,” Davis said.
