For some, coming to college means leaving behind the novelties of childhood, but not for Sarah Johnson. Johnson, a freshman theater major, intends to bring Disney characters to life by hand-making costumes and photographing students in the theater department wearing them. Johnson had the idea for a similar project four years ago, but felt she did not have the resources and skills necessary to bring it to life. “When I came to Lipscomb and got into the theater department, got a little more into photography and had a nice camera, I started taking pictures and I started seeing the talent that all these different people had,” Johnson said. “Instead of using models, I thought that it would be interesting to see people, who for or a living or for a hobby want to act as characters, to take on the characters that they love.” Johnson is planning to photograph a different set of characters each semester. The theme of this set will be Disney Princesses, but future plans include Toy Story, Disney villains, Greek Mythology and horror sets. Friend and fellow first year theater student, Natalie Risk, has been assisting Johnson with the project. “This is a project that will span our entire four years of college,” Risk said. “I’m really looking forward to seeing the last set of pictures we take and comparing them to our first. Seeing the progression and the growth in every aspect of what we do will be a lot of fun to watch.” Together they have made a schedule, acquired materials and picked locations for photo shoots. Describe your Style : I love lot’s of deep colors (navy/forrest green/maroon/black). I like to style myself in button ups, moccasins, thrifted T-shirts, sweaters and oversized cardigans. Favorite local Nashville stores: Pangea Style inspirations: I love wearing comfortable clothes that I still can feel unique in. I have lots of random pieces, but always stick to the same color palette so that I can easily incorporate new pieces to my wardrobe. My favorite part about my wardrobe is my go-to accessories. I have a lot of hand-me downs and things from my travels. I love using them to tell stories. Favorite piece of clothing or accessory : Definitely my denim button up. It’s hard to believe that soon summer is going to be over. It feels like it only just began! One of my favorite parts of a new school year is back-to-school fashion. There is never a better time to add on to your wardrobe! These are a few of the things that I find to be fun ways to brighten up the beginning of the school year. Polka dots: I have noticed more and more how many polka dot things there have been in stores lately. I don’t want to admit it, but I definitely have a problem with buying polka dot clothing in excess. The good thing about dots is that you can mix and match them, or wear a fun skirt with a T-shirt or blouse tucked into it. Polka dots are such a versatile print! High-waisted shorts: I have been absolutely obsessed with high-waisted shorts lately! I started seeing them all over the place and had to try them out myself. They are now one of the most essential things in my closet. The only problem is that sometimes it can be hard to find a decent pair without spending a lot of money. I would suggest going to a thrift store to buy a pair. I found my pairs of shorts at Goodwill! That way, you can get the look without the insane price tag. Ankle boots: This is another trend that I have noticed surfacing on the fashion scene....
