The Lipscomb Lady Bisons rallied for a 3-2 win after dropping sets one and three to the North Florida Ospreys this afternoon. Each set was decided with no more than a seven point deficit; both were teams in full gear. “Credit goes to North Florida, that team is so good to be 0 and 5,” said Lipscomb libero Bri McCombs. “They’re definitely one of the best teams we’ve played in conference.” McCombs kept several plays alive by leading the Lady Bisons with 17 digs. Brittnay Estes and Sophie Kellerman added 14 digs each. Both Estes and Kellerman posted double-doubles with 14 and 10 kills respectively. McCombs made mention that the Bisons were playing well all around. “Our blocks came in clutch, towards the end of the fifth set and I’m really proud of our offense, our blocks and our defense,” said McCombs. “I’m proud of the whole team.” Saturday night’s win concludes the Lady Bisons 2-0 weekend. Their other win was against Jacksonville University Friday night in four sets. Lipscomb is now 5-0 in the A-Sun and 11-6 overall for the season. The Lipscomb baseball team ended their season with a three-game home stand against the first place team in the Atlantic Sun, Florida Gulf Coast. With the number one seed in the Atlantic Sun Tournament in sight, the Bisons won their first game against Florida Gulf Coast on Thursday 11-6, keeping their hopes alive for one more day. Junior center fielder Jonathan Allison led Lipscomb with three hits in the game. Junior left fielder Josh Lee was one of many Bisons with two hits during the explosive offensive outing. Due to expected inclement weather on Saturday, the Bisons and Eagles played a doubleheader on Friday. Needing to win twice to have a shot at first place in the conference, Lipscomb split the games, dropping the first game 3-2 and winning the second match-up 7-1 to take the series. Junior shortstop Grant Massey led the Bisons in the first outing by batting 2 for 4, while junior designated hitter Griffin Moore paced Lipscomb by going 3 for 4 and belting a home run in the second game. The two victories helped to solidify the Bisons’ fourth place finish for the season in the Atlantic Sun, a position which matches them up against fifth place Jacksonville (13-13 conference record, 20-31 overall record) in the opening game of the A-Sun Tournament. Lipscomb defeated Jacksonville at Dugan Field in two out of the three games that they played in March. While most of Lipscomb’s campus had their scarves bundled around their necks to stay warm in Monday’s frigid weather, the men’s basketball team was neck-and-neck with the Jacksonville University Dolphins on Monday night in Allen Arena. The Bisons fell to the Dolphins in the closing seconds to lose 88-85. Redshirt freshman point guard J.C. Hampton’s three point attempt was tipped and misdirected, and time ran out as the teams chased the rebound. Although Lipscomb came up short, three players for the Bisons scored in the double digits. Freshman Josh Williams had his first career start on Monday. The guard from Jackson, Miss., scored 28 points to lead the team and collected nine rebounds. “It was a great honor to start. I just took the opportunity to step up and do what the team needed,” said Williams, who went 50-percent from the arc and made all of his free throws. Hampton put up 19 points, and sophomore guard J.J. Butler rounded out the double-digit scoring with 13 points. Jacksonville’s field shooting led them to victory, knocking down 15-for-25 in the second half while the Bisons shot 15-for-32. The Bisons and Dolphins also combined for 27 total turnovers for the game. Jacksonville took advantage of the Bisons’ turnovers, scoring 16 points from the changes in possession.
