Nine Lumination Network staff members graduate

Nine Lumination Network staff members graduated with a degree in journalism and new media. Each of them played a major role in producing content for Lumination, as they have written stories for the website, worked on the TV newscast and been heard on the radio. Chad Johnson is a journalism and new media major from Edmond, Oklahoma. Alongside being on the men’s basketball team, Johnson was an anchor, reporter, writer and videographer for Lumination. Johnson said his favorite part about being involved in Lumination was getting to know everyone better. “It’s also allowed me to open up and show people another side of me while perfecting my journalism skills,” he said. Johnson said he plans to go to graduate school at Lipscomb, then eventually become an ESPN reporter or a sports journalist. “Mainly, just finding something I love doing and being happy,” he said.     Erika Thornsberry is a broadcast and new media major with a minor in management from St. Marys, Ohio. Along with playing on and helping out with the women’s basketball team as well as interning with the Nashville Predators, she also has written for Lumination Network and been a part of the weekly newscasts. Thornsberry said her favorite part about the communication department is how close and caring everyone is. “Special thanks to Mr. McGee for helping me throughout these four years,” she said. “He helped me in the classroom, getting different jobs around campus and different internships. He has really helped me grow as a student.” After graduation, Thornsberry plans to attend The University of Northwestern Ohio to get her MBA.   Madeline...

‘Big Hero 6’ a big winner for Disney Animation

Big Hero 6, the newest title from Walt Disney Animation Studios, stands as yet another home run for the Mouse House.  The film’s blend of action and adventure with close-knit relationships and genuine emotion made for an epic story, one of the best Disney has told in quite some time. Big Hero 6 takes place in the fictional metropolis of San Fransokyo. It tells the story of 14-year-old robotics engineer Hiro Hamada and his older brother, Tadashi. The elder Hamada, a robotics genius, has developed a revolutionary robot healthcare assistant named Baymax. Tadashi dreams of helping the world with his creation, but Hiro sees Baymax doing even more. After a tragic accident, Hiro feels compelled to turn Baymax into a tough fighting machine. The two join forces with a few of Tadashi’s friends (Honey Lemon, Wasabi, GoGo and Fred) to find out the root of a mysterious plot that may correlate with the accident. Big Hero 6 has a lot going for it. The film’s animation is absolutely stunning. Sure, this is Disney, the animation king, but this movie felt very lifelike. The animators included several cues from live-action film. In all the fight scenes, production used a lot of “handheld shaky cam” visuals with “poor” zooming and focusing, but the movement never became distracting. Thinking all the way back to Toy Story, CGI animation has come a very, very long way. But, animation is only a tool used to make the movie. The core of every movie is the story, and this story here is very strong. In fact, this is the best story that Disney has put out...
