Gallery: Quest Week’s Bison Bash and more

Lipscomb’s Quest team kicked off the week with the first tailgate of the semester in a combined effort with athletics. The tailgate offered food from Taco Mama, free tank tops and a chance to sign up for service day. Service day will take place today from one till four. The Quest groups will take to different locations and do community service projects around the Nashville area. Following the Bison Bash yesterday evening was a neon night at the Brentwood skate center. What’s a better way to make a first impression on fellow Lipscomb students than wiping out on roller skates? After the neon night, students headed back to campus to participate in this semesters first “On Wednesdays, We Eat”. This event is held nearly every Wednesday on Lipscomb’s campus throughout the school year. Typically a Lipscomb student attending will get to watch a free concert from a local band and eat a one-dollar meal. While the eating and free concert took place, the transfer students headed to Jeni’s on 12 South to mingle with other transfers. The evening lasted till well past midnight and definitely offered a little something for...

Professional Women’s Event teaches students importance of presentation

Nashville Fashion Week had nothing on Lipscomb fashion and merchandizing department’s Professional Women’s Event and Fashion Show that took place Wednesday night in Shamblin Theatre. The event was hosted by Leanne Smith, a Lipscomb management and marketing professor, who talked about the importance of presentation. “We need to think how we’re coming across to people,” Smith said. “You pay so much for education so you need to leave knowing how to present yourself.” The theme of the event was “Creating your best self,” where the idea was reinforced to the all-female audience, “You are unique. You are enough. You are beautiful.” Before the fashion show, junior Kendall Young, a contestant from “The Sing-Off,” sang “Perfect” by P!nk and “True Colors” by Cyndi Lauper as a montage of fashion quotes were displayed in the background. Students modeled business-wear, while fashion and merchandizing students narrated the inspiration behind the outfits. “It was cool and inspiring,” said Gracen Sanders, a freshman who modeled at the event. “It was fun trying a different look.” At the end of the fashion show, audience members were encouraged to Tweet in fashion questions with the hashtag “LipscombWPE.” Smith and a representative from Blush Boutiques helped answer questions regarding what color to wear and where to shop. Audience members were also advised on how to accessorize for interviews, what kind of hair and makeup to do and what is appropriate to wear in the business world. “The event was definitely informative,” said sophomore Shelby Hunter. “I’ve never really known what to wear for job interviews so hopefully this will help.” Refreshments such as fondue and tea sandwiches were served...

Hot & Cold supplies coffee lovers with fresh venue, tasty treats

Hot & Cold, part of the Bongo Java company, adds diversity to the cluster of restaurants and shops found in Hillsboro Village on 21st Avenue South. Hot & Cold, located on the same side of the street as Fido, features Bongo Java‘s coffee, a variety of tea mixes, Las Paletas, Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams and a few treats to munch on. Not quite as packed as Fido, Hot & Cold is the perfect place to get in-and-out with an order. If you prefer to sit, you can enjoy free Wi-Fi while catching up with friends, or if you’re a loner, sit by yourself and pretend to do something important on your computer. Like Bongo Java, they have summer specialties. The flavors at Hot & Cold, which opened in November 2010, are more unique than just a cappuccino or plain vanilla. But if that’s how you like it, they’ll make it. On the walls, there is a full menu for you to read. Pricing is moderate and worth the quality. Hot & Cold’s location in Hillsboro Village makes it easier to find parking than some coffee shops on 12th Avenue South. Hot & Cold is open Monday-Thursday 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Friday-Sunday 9 a.m. to 11...
