The 44th annual Dove Awards is happening Tuesday night in Allen Arena. To prepare you for the evening’s festivities, here are some of the nominees for Song of the Year category, awarded to songwriters and publishers. “10,000 Reasons (Bless the Lord),” artist Matt Redman, writer Jonas Myrin This seems to be a church favorite. I don’t think there has been one church I have gone to this year that hasn’t used this song during worship. “The Proof of your Love,” artist For King & Country, writers Ben Glover, Jonathan Lee Australian-born, Nashville-based brothers Luke and Joel were named by Billboard as one of the “New Artists to Watch” for 2012. “Take me to the King,” artist Tamela Mann, writer Kirk Franklin Mann is a recipient of the 2011 Dove Award for Traditional Gospel album of the year. Her song “Take me to the King” topped U.S. Billboard Gospel Song charts for weeks straight. It was also nominated for a Grammy. “Whom Shall I Fear,” artist Chris Tomlin, writer Ed Cash Tomlin is a multiple Dove Award recipient. “One Thing Remains,” artist Kristian Stanfill, writer Brian Johnson I visited a church in Atlanta across the span of several months. This song was the staple worship song. I didn’t complain. Stanfill won Special Event Album of the Year at the 2011 Dove Awards. “What the Blood is for,” artist Jason Crabb, writer Ronnie Freeman Crabb won Male Vocalist of the Year and Artist of the Year at the 2012 Dove Awards. Last year, Michael Neale’s “Your Name is Great” won the Dove Award for the then-titled Worship Song of the Year. Who will win this year’s newly named category? Let’s take a look at the nominees in the Praise & Worship Category. “10,000 Reasons (Bless the Lord)” by Matt Redman. Redman has received a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Christian Music Song,Grammy Award for Best Gospel/Contemporary Christian Music Performance, and Billboard Music Award for Top Christian Song. “Beautiful Things” by Gungor. Gungor has been nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Gospel Song, Best Rock Gospel Album and Best Contemporary Christian Music Album. “One Thing Remains” by Kristian Stanfill. Stanfill has been previously nominated for Praise and Worship Song of the Year. “Redeemed” by Big Daddy Weave. Big Daddy WWeave has been previously nominated for Song of the Year, Contemporary Christian Performance of the Year, Rock/Contemporary Song of the Year and Praise and Worship Song of the Year. “Whom Shall I Fear (God of Angel Armies)” by Chris Tomlin. Tomlin has received a Grammy for Best Contemporary Christian Music Album and has been nominated for Praise & Worship Album of the Year, Pop/Contemporary Album of the Year and Artist of the Year. My Predictions: I think Chris Tomlin’s “Whom Shall I Fear (God of Angel Armies)” will win in this category, but Big Daddy Weave’s “Redeemed” and Gungor’s “Beautiful Things” are also possibilties. Just when the preforming lineup couldn’t get any bigger for this year’s Dove Awards, it has. Needtobreathe was added to the mix for the awards set for Oct. 15 in Allen Arena. The South Carolina-based band joins Big Daddy Weave, Kristian Stanfill, Michael W. Smith, TobyMac and other big-name Christian artists as performers in the 44th annual Dove Awards. Needtobreathe is a multiple-Dove Award winner, including a 2012 “Group of the Year” award and won two other awards last year for their song “Slumber” and for their album The Reckoning. Among the added artists, Andy Mineo, Dailey & Vincent, Ernie Haase & Signature Sound, The Isaacs, Karen Peck, KB and Trip Lee are scheduled to preform as well. Bone Hampton was also announced as a presenter. He joins Joyce Meyer, Lecrae, Mandisa, Pastor Rick Warren and others previously announced. The pre-show takes place 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and can be streamed, along with the Dove Cares Red Carpet, at www.hearitfirst.com/live.
