Lipscomb men’s soccer 2020 signing class could boost ‘attacking’ force

Lipscomb men’s soccer has announced a new roster for the coming season, and the eyes of the coach were focused on ability to attack offensively. “We’ve historically been known as a team that has a really potent offense and some really dynamic attacking pieces,” said head coach Charles Morrow. The coaches were looking for more of that attacking force with this signing class, with high hopes to improve that sting in their offense. “In addition to filling some key positions like Ben Loche as our holding midfielder, that we lost last year, really the focus of this group was finding attacking players that could give us more of a threat in the attack and scoring goals,” said Morrow. “We’re really happy with the group that we got and the quality they bring as players and really excited with the quality of people that we’re seeing so far,” said Morrow. Here is more on the signing class and some of their notable achievements. Gerik Jakubowksi is a forward from Phoenix, Arizona. 1st-Team All-Region at Sunnyslope High School. Lipscomb Men’s Soccer clinches a spot in ASUN Tournament

Tonight’s game was a story of two penalties but resulted in a 1-0 win for the Bisons against the North Florida Ospreys. Despite the muddy field from the day full of rainy weather, the Bisons played their hardest, pulled out a solid win and gained a spot in the ASUN Tournament. Head Coach Charles Morrow said he is “just really proud of the group and the team tonight.”  The first penalty came as Lipscomb junior forward Javier Leija was fouled in the box, allowing senior midfielder Ben Locke to score the first and only goal of the game in the 21st minute off of the penalty kick.  The Bisons entered the second half with a 1-0 lead which would remain the same throughout the rest of the game.  The second penalty came in the 69th minute from UNF’s senior midfielder Taylor Martin, but the penalty kick was blocked by redshirt-junior goal keeper Luke Wilson. Wilson then blocked a second shot directly after the penalty save and totaled out with five saves during the game, 16 on the season.  This win allowed the Bisons to clinch a spot in the ASUN tournament for the 13th consecutive season. The Bisons have won the tournament two years in a row.  The Bisons will play at Liberty on November 2nd. Liberty also won tonight 1-0 against Jacksonville tonight. With the win, Liberty will remain in contention for a spot in the ASUN Conference Soccer Championship.  “Experience is just really important,” said Morrow, “beyond experience, it’s these guys understanding that you don’t win and lose the season on one game, that the whole season...

Lipscomb men’s soccer signs three-year partnership with PUMA

Lipscomb’s men’s soccer team has signed on with international sports apparel giant PUMA. The men’s soccer team’s three-year agreement with PUMA puts them in an unparalleled position in NCAA soccer. The deal, struck earlier this summer, puts the men’s soccer team in a unique position at Lipscomb, as the rest of the athletics teams are going to be outfitted by a PUMA competitor (see related story on this site.) “In today’s age, landing a fully-supported deal with an industry-leading brand like PUMA is unique, and it will keep our men’s soccer program on the forefront of the NCAA landscape as the game continues to grow in America,” Lipscomb Associate AD for External Affairs Brent McMillian said in a statement released by Lipscomb Athletics.  All Lipscomb men’s soccer apparel will be provided by PUMA, whose internationally recognized name will continue to grow Lipscomb’s reputation, which reached new heights after the team reached the Sweet Sixteen last fall. “We are very excited to enter into an agreement with PUMA, a company that has long been at the forefront in the game of soccer,” 2018 ASUN Men’s Soccer Head Coach of the Year Charles Morrow said in the statement. “Not only will this help with building the brand of our program, but it will also have a big impact in recruiting by being known as the leader of our game.” PUMA, which signed the back-to-back Premier League Champions Manchester City earlier this year, will also benefit from this deal as they continue to grow their markets in North America and in the international soccer community.  Men’s soccer fan apparel also, of course,...
