As our last Dove Awards preview mentioned, Lipscomb is hosting the 45th Annual Dove Awards for the second year in a row, and there are quite a few stand-out nominees. In this preview, we’ll be looking at the “Song of the Year” category as well as analyzing who should win and who will win. The 44th annual Dove Awards is happening Tuesday night in Allen Arena. To prepare you for the evening’s festivities, here are some of the nominees for Song of the Year category, awarded to songwriters and publishers. “10,000 Reasons (Bless the Lord),” artist Matt Redman, writer Jonas Myrin This seems to be a church favorite. I don’t think there has been one church I have gone to this year that hasn’t used this song during worship. “The Proof of your Love,” artist For King & Country, writers Ben Glover, Jonathan Lee Australian-born, Nashville-based brothers Luke and Joel were named by Billboard as one of the “New Artists to Watch” for 2012. “Take me to the King,” artist Tamela Mann, writer Kirk Franklin Mann is a recipient of the 2011 Dove Award for Traditional Gospel album of the year. Her song “Take me to the King” topped U.S. Billboard Gospel Song charts for weeks straight. It was also nominated for a Grammy. “Whom Shall I Fear,” artist Chris Tomlin, writer Ed Cash Tomlin is a multiple Dove Award recipient. “One Thing Remains,” artist Kristian Stanfill, writer Brian Johnson I visited a church in Atlanta across the span of several months. This song was the staple worship song. I didn’t complain. Stanfill won Special Event Album of the Year at the 2011 Dove Awards. “What the Blood is for,” artist Jason Crabb, writer Ronnie Freeman Crabb won Male Vocalist of the Year and Artist of the Year at the 2012 Dove Awards.
