Women’s soccer takes victory in match against Miami Hurricanes

CORAL GABLES, FL – The Lipscomb women’s soccer team defeated the Miami Hurricanes 2-0 in their first away match of the season. With the win over Miami, who represents the Atlantic Coast Conference, Lipscomb earns its second triumph in two attempts this year against a Power Five conference opponent. They bested Mississippi State 2-1 in their opening match of the season. Sophomore goalkeeper CJ Graham starred for the Bisons, earning a clean sheet despite facing 13 shots from the Hurricanes. She was forced to make four saves on the evening in order to keep Miami out of her goal for all 90 minutes. Alongside Graham, defenders Emily Patti, Katia Hanger, and Logan McFadden put in full shifts as well, playing in every single minute of the match. McFadden, a Birmingham, Alabama, native, continued her streak of playing in every minute of every match all season for the Bisons. In the attack, Lipscomb’s strikeforce was potent as ever. VCU transfer and Waldorf, Maryland-born Kale’a Perry found the back of the net for the second straight match, while Haley Williams, a freshman from St. Simons Island, Georgia, scored off the bench. Williams got the breakthrough goal with a left-footed effort into the bottom corner near the halftime whistle, and on the other side of the break, Perry found the back of the net with the same foot off an assist from debutant Allie Dunn. The junior winger from Oak Ridge started the match and contributed to a shot and the Perry assist in her 42 minutes. Junior center midfielder Cami Rogers led Lipscomb in shots and shots on goal, with three...

WATCH: Bailey’s no-look header gives Lipscomb massive tourney upset

The Lipscomb and Mississippi State women’s soccer teams entered uncharted territory in Starkville Friday evening. The two programs were both making their first-ever NCAA tournament appearances, but it was the Lady Bisons that pulled out a stunning, 1-0 victory in Golden Goal to advance to the second round. Neither team scored in regulation or overtime, forcing the match to go into sudden-death overtime. Lipscomb junior defender Dominique Diller launched a free kick from midfield, and the ball found its way through several players and into the box. The pass then bounced off the head of senior Justis Bailey and into the net. GOLDEN. The goal set off a wild celebration as the Lady Bisons became Lipscomb’s first team to advance to the second round of the NCAA tournament in any sport. Senior goalkeeper Kate Mason made seven saves for her ninth clean sheet of the season. The ASUN Goalie of the Year also made a highlight-reel save to keep the game scoreless with 22 minutes remaining. .What.A.Play… this merits a replay & @SportsCenter #Top10 play consideration! ? #SCtop10 #Saveoftheweek ? by @kateemasonn #FullStretch #Ncaasoccer #CollegeCup @espnW @nwslville @NWSL @NCAASoccer @LipscombWSOC @LipscombBisons #SecondRound here we come! pic.twitter.com/S5xhJHCeio — Shannon O'Brien (@ObShannon) November 10, 2018 Lipscomb will take on Duke in the second round of the tournament. Lipscomb women’s soccer to face familiar foe in NCAA tourney

The Lipscomb women’s soccer team patiently waited to learn its fate for the program’s first NCAA tournament appearance Monday afternoon at a watch party in the Allen Arena Hall of Fame room. As luck would have it, the Lady Bisons (14-4-2) were paired with another NCAA first-timer in Mississippi State (9-6-2). The first-round match is set for Friday at 4 p.m. in Starkville. “It’s going to be a difficult game, but I’m excited about the opportunity to travel,” Lipscomb coach Kevin O’Brien said. “We thought we might get Vanderbilt and that would’ve been a great game, but I know the girls really were excited about being able to get on the road and get the [full] NCAA postseason tournament experience.” The two teams have a history – Lipscomb went to Starkville and emerged with a 1-0 victory over the Bulldogs on August 26, 2016. Ellen Lundy scored the lone tally in the 16th minute and goalie Anna Buhigas made nine saves to preserve the win. “We know Mississippi State and played them a couple years ago,” O’Brien said. “I’m actually friends with their coaching staff a little bit. They’re going to be motivated.” Lipscomb junior forward and 2018 ASUN Player of the Year Olivia Doak is one of seven current Lady Bisons that played in the 2016 match at Mississippi State. The nine-goal scorer said that experience should be a confidence booster for Lipscomb. “I remember their environment being really crazy,” Doak said. “Knowing that we won on [their] field before is good to have in the back of our minds.” Lipscomb clinched an automatic bid to the NCAA...

Lipscomb softball falls to Mississippi State

Mississippi State took down Lipscomb in a 1-0 win Tuesday afternoon at Draper Diamond at Smith Stadium. Lipscomb and Mississippi State were tied at zero until the fifth inning. It was not until the Bulldogs’ designated player Mackenzie Toler got a run-scoring single in the top of the fifth to make the only run in the competition. Junior pitcher Tanner Stevens gave up one run and had nine strikeouts on the game. “Tanner was really attacking the zone,” Lipscomb coach Kristin Ryman said. “She did a tremendous job. You can not ask for more than what she gave us today.” Ryman said she hopes that Stevens will continue her excellent pitching by hitting her spots for future starts. Mississippi sent out its number one starter and ace hurler Alexis Silkwood in the circle. Silkwood had four strikeouts and allowed two hits. Ryman was not surprised that Mississippi had its number one starter go against Lipscomb. “She is doing some good things for them,” Ryman said. Freshman Caitlin Plocheck extended her hitting streak to five games. Plocheck had a single in the bottom of the second. “Her last two at-bats were still quality,” Ryman said. “We are starting to see what we knew she was capable of. That is exciting for us as we move into the last half of conference play.” Ryman said she hopes Plocheck and others will become strong hitters as they go through the rest of the season. Lipscomb will travel to Florida for some Atlantic Sun action with Jacksonville this weekend. Photo courtesy of Lipscomb...
