CMA Fest is one of the biggest events in Nashville and visitors are arriving from all over to attend. While tickets to the main nighttime concert can be expensive, there are many free stages around town. During CMA Fest, fans can hear hundreds of artist, enjoy the downtown Nashville scene and attend six stages of free concerts. Organizers of the festival have said there will be more than 300 artists performing on the free stages this weekend. Some are up-and-coming artists, but there are many big name artist as well. A few of the big names include: Billy Currington, Gavin Degraw, Scotty McCreery, Lauren Alaina, Chase Rice and Ashley McBryde. Free stages are as follow… The Chevy Riverfront Stage is the largest daytime stage at the festival and is located in Riverfront Park. Nashville Acoustic Center is a small stage located in the glass tower of Nashville visitor center just inside Bridgestone Arena. The Chevy Breakout Stage showcases the so-called next big country acts and is located in Walk of Fame Park. Budweiser Forever Country Stage is inside Forever Country Park behind Ascend Amphitheater. Maui Jim Broadway Stage is on the corner of fifth and Broadway and contains a lineup of an emerging artists. Along with the many free stages, there is also a cheap night show going on at Ascend Amphitheater at the same time as the big headliner concerts at Nissan Stadium. By Bridgette Begle and Brianne Welch The ninth annual Lighting of the Green brought rich tradition and holiday spirit to the Nashville community Tuesday night. Show regular Amy Grant was joined tonight by Ben Rector, David Phelps, Brenda Lee, Nicole C. Mullen, Hymns for Hunger & Friends (feat. Cindy Morgan and Andrew Greer) and the Stella family, including Nashville‘s Lennon & Maisy, for a night of music, merriment and plenty of bright Christmas lights. Fourth and fifth grade students from Lipscomb Academy, as well as the high school chorus, joined the University chorus on stage throughout the performance. The younger chorus tipped off the night with a medley of holiday classics, and the University chorus sang “Deck the Halls.” “We came here to hear one of our children sing in the chorus,” parent Heather Duncan said.” Our daughter is in the fifth grade at the campus school, so we’re looking forward to hearing everyone sing tonight.” About halfway through the show, Brenda Lee, singer of holiday classic “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree,” came onto the stage and ignited enthusiasm throughout the crowd. She asked for “eight really good singers,” and ended up with about 15 children, ranging from ages five to 20, to join her in the Christmas classic “Santa Claus is Coming to Town.” Lee shared her delight in being a part of the night’s fun. “You know, when miss Amy Grant asks you to do something, it’s just awful hard to say no,” Lee said. “So I’m awfully proud to do this for Lipscomb. The Alkaline Water system in the athletic department ionizes the water available to the athletes. And so far, they love it. The system was installed in the training center located the basement of Allen Arena for the athletes to use almost a year ago after undergoing a trial run for a short period of time. “I know the athletes do enjoy it,” said head athletic trainer Will Ness. “They say it has a crisper taste.” Ness said the reason the athletic department decided to have the system installed is because of the health benefits the water offers to Lipscomb’s athletes. Such benefits include better hydration, the ability to drink more water without feeling bloated and the anti-oxidant levels found within the water. Last year, the athletic department was approached by Cellular Hydration Specialist Scott Adkins about installing the system for the athletic department to use. Adkins is also the founder of a company called “The Freshouse”. His mission is to provide better, ionized water for the community of Nashville. Adkins explained that the electrolytes the alkaline water contains provides its consumers with extra calcium, potassium, sodium and magnesium. “When we ionize water, we’re getting an abundance of electrons,” said Adkins, “And the alkaline level between 8.5 and 9.5 pH is optimal for us to drink. It’s providing us energy and oxygen on a cellular level.” We decided to take a sample of the water to the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry for official testing, who reaffirmed Adkin’s claims. “We tested the water samples, and I know that there was a sample that was supposed to be around the pH...
