Hello friends! Happy New Year! To start off 2019, I thought it would be fun to look back at six past decades and the fashion trends of each of them. In addition to seeing the styles shift every decade, there are ways to incorporate aspects of each of these decades into your wardrobe today. I was thrilled about this idea and then became even more excited when I was shopping in downtown Murfreesboro (which is so cute). My friends and I wandered into a store on the square called Sugaree’s, which was filled with vintage-style clothing. I seriously wanted to buy the entire store. So rather than using Pinterest as my inspiration for the styles of each decade, I thought we should look to our fellow Bisons. I spent hours on a quiet, cloudy Sunday sitting in the back of Beaman Library looking through yearbooks from 1939 to 1989 to find fashion inspiration from the classes that came before us. Enjoy these photos, styles and tips on incorporating the best of each decade into your daily look. The Best of 1939 A sweet photo of a couple filled an entire page in the 1939 edition of Lipscomb’s yearbook, The Backlog. Although it is just the backs of the couple, it gives a great depiction of the styles of the time. The girl is dressed in a plaid blazer jacket with a white knee-length skirt. The boy is dressed in a white jacket and dress pants as they stroll across campus. They are simply walking around campus, and they are dressed very nicely, which looks cute and classy. A...

Starbucks, Lipscomb’s most popular go-to place for a cup of joe, is in the midst of a decently-sized renovation. As reported by Lumination’s Colleen Casner, “the back wall and counter will be redone with new cubbies and menu boards. The restaurant is also getting new furniture, a new layout and a new color scheme.” The changes began on July 18. As seen in the photos, new chairs and some new wallpaper can be seen in the changed-up location. For those worried that the coffee shop will be closed during the fall semester, don’t fret. By Bridgette Begle and Brianne Welch The ninth annual Lighting of the Green brought rich tradition and holiday spirit to the Nashville community Tuesday night. Show regular Amy Grant was joined tonight by Ben Rector, David Phelps, Brenda Lee, Nicole C. Mullen, Hymns for Hunger & Friends (feat. Cindy Morgan and Andrew Greer) and the Stella family, including Nashville‘s Lennon & Maisy, for a night of music, merriment and plenty of bright Christmas lights. Fourth and fifth grade students from Lipscomb Academy, as well as the high school chorus, joined the University chorus on stage throughout the performance. The younger chorus tipped off the night with a medley of holiday classics, and the University chorus sang “Deck the Halls.” “We came here to hear one of our children sing in the chorus,” parent Heather Duncan said.” Our daughter is in the fifth grade at the campus school, so we’re looking forward to hearing everyone sing tonight.” About halfway through the show, Brenda Lee, singer of holiday classic “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree,” came onto the stage and ignited enthusiasm throughout the crowd. She asked for “eight really good singers,” and ended up with about 15 children, ranging from ages five to 20, to join her in the Christmas classic “Santa Claus is Coming to Town.” Lee shared her delight in being a part of the night’s fun. “You know, when miss Amy Grant asks you to do something, it’s just awful hard to say no,” Lee said. “So I’m awfully proud to do this for Lipscomb.
