Featured image by Anna Rogers I know I’ve already done a column about winter in the South, but since there is a possibility for some snow this week, I thought it might be good to circle back to this topic. While my fellow Clevelanders and Midwesterners are preparing for negative double digit temperatures this week (shoutout to you winter warriors, and prayers that you stay safe and warm!), Nashville’s supposed to experience some snow and cooler-than-normal temperatures that might be causing some wardrobe worry. Therefore, I figured I would give some advice from a lifelong-Northern girl on how to conquer the snow and cold in style. Long sleeves are probably the best idea for when the temps plummet and the snow starts to fall. Even with my heavy red peacoat that I love, I still get cold outside. Wearing a long sleeved top or a sweater helps with that, allowing me to stay warmer as I walk to class or spend time outside. If you do not like long sleeves or are worried you might get too hot, try some layers. I love cardigans and kimonos to wear over short sleeved tops, and they’re great for if you get hot because you have the ability to take the long sleeves off. Not only do layers keep you warm and give versatility to an outfit, but they also allow a few pieces to create multiple looks! I got a new floral cardigan over break that I just absolutely love. Lipscomb canceled classes twice in the first several days of the semester. Students took the opportunity to go sledding on the soccer field and play in the snow. But essential Lipscomb employees were still expected to show up to work as usual. Bison Cafe remained open and maintenance services were still available thanks to the work of these dedicated staff. Campus dining services are contracted through Sodexo, a food service company based in France. Sodexo’s General Manager of Dining Services Wolcott Fary said employee schedules do not stray from the norm when bad weather is predicted. “Most of the folks that we have working for us here, upstairs and downstairs, really are dedicated and committed,” Fary said. “They are not just dedicated and committed to Sodexo because that’s their employer, they really feel more aligned with the university. Most of the folks that work here are here because they care about the university.” Fary said that in most cases, employees only miss work if they cannot make it to campus due to road conditions. Even when school is canceled, employees are aware that there are still students to serve. It’s not an easy decision for them to say they can’t make it. “I think everyone from someone like Lanie, who is one of our supervisors, to anybody who is working making the pizza or Marvin in the back doing the catering work, they’re all going to come here because they’re professionals,” Fary said. “They believe that their role here for us is important, not just for what we do as Sodexo, but how it affects the University.” Several employees worked...

All 8 and 9 a.m. classes for Friday, March 6 have been canceled due to winter weather. Rain turned to a wintry mix late Wednesday night and snow fell on campus throughout Thursday morning. Almost two inches of snow accumulated with low wind chills. Classes will resume at 10 a.m. tomorrow following the Class Schedule Disruption Policy. All traveling to campus should use their own judgement, as temperatures are predicted to remain below zero until mid-day Friday. Students should look for communication from professors for missed...

Almost two inches of snow covered campus early Thursday morning. Classes have been canceled for Thursday, as the snow has quickly accumulated, in addition to low wind chills. Davidson County has been issued a Winter Storm Warning that began at 6 p.m. Wednesday and will be in effect until noon today. The Campus Service Operations team has worked on clearing snow from Bison Square and major sidewalks throughout the morning. University offices are closed, except for those essential to the safety and welfare of campus residents. The dining hall is open as usual, but other dining options will open based on the availability staff.
