Men’s soccer blanks Toreros, sweeps Golden State weekend

The Lipscomb men’s soccer team beat the University of San Diego 4-0 Sunday night, sweeping the Southern California road trip and advancing to 2-0 on the season. The win was capped off by the defense preventing any shots on goal from USD. Lipscomb entered the game with 1 win and 2 losses in the all-time series. In the 9th minute, University of San Diego’s Kai Peterson received a yellow card. Lipscomb’s Javanne Smith fired off the first shot on goal, but it was saved by Marley Mascarenas, the man between the goalposts for the Toreros. Berlin, Germany native Luca Naumann took a large slide tackle that resulted in a foul against USD and a stoppage of play, but the sophomore midfielder was able to get up and continue playing. In the 16th minute, fellow German Scott Gulden put up his first goal of the season off the free-kick from his brother Noah Gulden, putting Lipscomb up 1-0. In the 20th minute, another Germany-born midfielder, Carlo Cavalar, drew his first yellow card of the season. Riley Hoag reflects on her time in Lipscomb’s IDEAL program

Riley Hoag reflects on her time in Lipscomb’s IDEAL program

During my time at Lipscomb, I was a student in the IDEAL Program. When I began my first year moving into the dorms, I didn’t know anyone who was a student or who was in the program. I was excited about finally being able to get a real college experience and making new friends after moving from another state. My experience during Quest Week didn’t exactly go as I wanted it to be. It was hard being able to make friends with the freshmen who were already younger than I was. When I started classes I was able to meet new people and get to know them. One day in class we were talking about photography and after the class one of my classmates took me to meet the Lumination editor-in-chief. I had expressed interest in taking pictures for Lumination Network. I started getting assigned sporting events to take photos for. I had started making a few friends and then IDEAL assigned peer mentors for the IDEAL students. Two of my mentors happened to be on the women’s soccer team and I had no clue until one night I was taking photos for one of their games.                     Riley with Lumination Network editor-in-chief Mckenzi Harris                     Riley with her IDEAL peer mentors from the Lady Bisons soccer team   I started becoming good friends with my mentors, players on sports teams, and students in my classes. Most of my favorite memories are with my friends on the soccer team because we...
Lipscomb Men’s Soccer season comes to a close with a loss to No. 1 Jacksonville Dolphins

Lipscomb Men’s Soccer season comes to a close with a loss to No. 1 Jacksonville Dolphins

After defeating the Liberty Flames Saturday afternoon at home to clinch a spot in the ASUN semifinals, Lipscomb travelled to Jacksonville to take on the top-ranked ASUN team, Jacksonville, where the Bisons fell 4-2 Thursday afternoon. The Dolphins wasted no time putting together a strong offensive presence and capitalized by scoring three of their four goals within the first 25 minutes of the game. Both junior defenders Noah and Scott Gulden came up just shy of cutting into the Dolphins lead with two early shots on goal for the Bisons, but Jacksonville goalie junior Matt Levy came up with the save on both occasions. Finally, the Bisons got on the board with a late goal from freshman defender William Turner to end the first half and to bring Lipscomb back within striking distance. But the Dolphins once again were the first to score as they returned from the break extending their lead to 4-1. Freshman forward Tyrese Spicer gave the Bisons several chances but could never capitalize. Eventually, sophomore forward Alejandro Lopez scored bringing Lipscomb once again within two, but the early deficit proved to be too much to overcome. Despite the loss, Lipscomb outshot the Dolphins 19-11 and fought until the final whistle. The Bisons finish the season 6-5-2 and 1-2-1 in ASUN play in the COVID-altered format. Lipscomb Women’s Soccer has record-setting night against North Alabama

Lipscomb stays undefeated in conference play with a dominating 7-0 win against North Alabama on Wednesday night. The seven goals for the Bisons are the most goals scored in an ASUN game for Lipscomb as well as their third-most in the NCAA era.  Junior midfielders Cami Rogers and Kelli Beiler led the Bisons scoring two goals each, and sophomore, and forwards sophomore Kammy McGee, sophomore Grace Oliver, and freshman Haley Williams each added one to the Bisons scoring. Despite allowing seven goals, North Alabama goalkeeper Peyton Yates saved 12 goals, but the Bisons’ relentless attack was too much for the Lions to stop, as the Bisons finished with 24 shots including 19 on goal.  Meanwhile, defensively for Lipscomb, the Bisons’ backline only allowed three shots total for the Lions, and the Bisons goalkeepers senior Melissa Gray and freshman CJ Graham split the work, each playing one half and stopping one of the two Lions’ shots on goal. Lipscomb is scheduled to play Bellarmine Saturday afternoon at home to finish out their regular season this spring before tournament play begins next week. Photo by Riley...

Lipscomb men’s soccer falls in ASUN opener against Bellarmine

NASHVILLE – The Lipscomb men’s soccer team lost its conference opener to Bellarmine 1-0 on Saturday afternoon at the Lipscomb Soccer Complex. The Bisons were held scoreless for the first time this season despite registering eight shots and placing five of those on target. Costa Rica-born sophomore Alejandro Lopez led the team in the attack with his three shots, two of which were on frame. Lipscomb utilized the fewest players in a game all season long, as only two substitutes saw time for a total of thirteen players seeing action against the Knights. Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Michael Sibley was one of the starters to play all match long for the Bisons, and despite conceding a late goal, he finished with four saves and kept a clean sheet for the first 80 minutes of the match. Sibley was finally beaten at the 81-minute mark by Malaysian midfielder Haziq Zed, a sophomore hailing from Kuala Lumpur. Zed only appeared in 31 minutes for Bellarmine, and his goal was the only shot he produced. Fellow midfielder Micah Linscott provided the assist, adding two shots on goal to his attacking exploits. The Bellarmine back line remained virtually unchanged all match long, but in the midfield and the attack, Bellarmine utilized many more substitutions than the home side. It seemed to pay off with a late goal that gave the Knights their first Division I conference win. Their overall record improves to 1-2 after earlier losses to Xavier and Belmont. The Knights have not scored multiple goals in a match this season. Lipscomb drops its first decision all season, falling to 3-1-0 overall and...
