The Northern Southern Belle: Spring trends to help your wardrobe blossom

The Northern Southern Belle: Spring trends to help your wardrobe blossom

The following is a biweekly fashion column, complemented by George Wong’s column LU’s GQ. The weather yesterday was so beautiful and gave me hope for a gorgeous, sunny spring ahead! With the warming temperatures (which will hopefully stick around soon instead of just coming every once in a while!) starting to make appearances again, we can finally begin to put away the chunky sweaters and warm boots in exchange for more springy pieces. With that being said, here are some pieces that can be great transitions into spring. Floral anything I absolutely love most floral prints and wear them all year round, but they’re especially good for spring. They go with the fresh, new vibe that the season brings and are perfect for matching the stunning flowers that will soon bloom. One of my favorite pieces that I have is a thin floral kimono. There are so many colors in it, which provides numerous outfit options. I can pair it with multiple different tops and even solid colored dresses. In addition to the kimono, I own several floral tops and dresses. I find the patterns flirty, fun and calming, and I think that goes along with the season. I have always been a skinny jean girl, but recently I have gotten into wearing other kinds of jeans, too! My favorite pair is a boyfriend cut pair with roses embroidered up the sides. I love pairing them with a solid red top and hoop earrings for a bright look.     Short sleeve dresses! My favorite thing to wear! I love the light, airy feeling of them and the ability to...

A capella singers perform at spring concert

For college students, free entertainment is always a plus, and Lipscomb University students need to look no further than Lipscomb’s own A Cappella Singers. The choral group performed their spring concert on April 12, 2010 in Willard Collins Alumni Auditorium. This was the group’s 16th program of the 2009-2010 concert season, and they will still have several more performances. The College of Arts and Sciences School of Fine Performing Arts Department of Music presented GLORIA! Monteverdi and Vivaldi. A section of Gloria was performed comprised of twelve songs sung by the A Cappella Singers conducted by Dr. Gary P. Wilson, accompanied by an orchestra coordinated by Carolyn Wann Bailey. Dr. Gary P. Wilson is a conductor, scholar, and teacher. His responsibilities as Director of Choral Activities include conducting the A Cappella Singers, overseeing the choral/vocal program, and directing the Vocal Jazz Ensemble. He teaches choral conducting methods, voice, and music theory. The A Cappella Singers are a premiere choral ensemble at Lipscomb University. The group is comprised of about 75 members and is open to those in various degree programs across campus. Each year the group performs a wide variety of genres and styles. Melanie Matthews, a sophomore from Gulf Breeze, Fla., and a vocal performance major sings soprano in the chorus. Matthews has been a part of the chorus for two years. “A Cappella singing is beautiful,” Matthews says. “When I came to hear the choir sing I immediately fell in love.” Matthews enjoys being a part of many major events on campus, such as the “Lighting of the Green”. The A Cappella Singers also perform in many...
