The Northern Southern Belle: Swimsuits for every style this summer

The Northern Southern Belle: Swimsuits for every style this summer

With the weather finally getting warmer and the realization that there is less than one month left until the end of the semester, I’ve got my mind on the hot summer beach days ahead. One of my favorite parts of this time of year is the release of new spring and summer products at stores, including swimsuits for the season. Here I’ll share with you some of my favorite places to get suits for the summer ahead. Scrolling through sites and taking strolls through numerous shops has given me lots of insight on this season’s swimsuit trends. Just like with spring and summer clothing trends in general this year, florals are in. If you’re looking for something super affordable, JCPenney and Target are my suggestions. Target has some bright, textured suits that are absolutely adorable. They also have numerous options if you like stripes or if you are a fan of floral. They provide a great variety of styles as well, with many one-piece, tankini and bikini options. What’s even better is that Target’s swimsuits start at just $15.    Meanwhile at JCPenney, there is a variety of more unique suits available. These include fringe tankinis and off-the-shoulder one-pieces. Once again, florals are dominant and are paired with bright colors. Swimsuits cost as low as $20. I love shopping in stores and usually hate buying things online, but Cupshe is my one exception. Their ads pop up everywhere and draw me in. There are tons of options on their site, with plenty of one-piece, two-piece and tankini styles. Stripes and florals are prominent, but one of the things I love...
The Northern Southern Belle: Spring break essentials

The Northern Southern Belle: Spring break essentials

In just a few days, all of us will be scattered around the world relaxing and enjoying the week off from class. While I’m headed north to beautiful, chilly New Hampshire, friends and peers are heading all over the world, spanning from the Caribbean to DC to California to Guatemala to China! Regardless of where you’re headed, I hope you’re ftoking forward to the time off. Although the climates and weather forecasts for where you’re headed may be different from the forecasts for your friends’ destinations, there are absolutely ways for all of us to stay in style. If you’re heading somewhere cold (like me!): I know it’s spring, which means it’s supposed to be warm, but unfortunately, some places are not going to be “sunny and 75” next week. There are ways to stay warm while also celebrating the coming springtime, many of which can be found in my previous article. While I know we’d all love to break out the sandals and shorts for break, it may not be possible if you’re going somewhere cold. Try jeans or capris and pair them with a cute floral top or one with a summer vibe. If it’s still a little chilly, add a light spring jacket or a cardigan. I love my springy cardigans, but I am always excited to pull out my favorite lightweight jackets. I have a pink one from Aeropostale that I just love, and I recently picked up an army green one at a thrift sale, too. Another thing I love about spring is that it is perfect for dresses and skirts. If you’re going...
The Northern Southern Belle: Pieces you’ll love for Valentines Day

The Northern Southern Belle: Pieces you’ll love for Valentines Day

Thursday is the annual celebration of love, but it’s also a time to show off cute, romantic outfits. Whether you have a date planned with your sweetheart, or you’re planning on watching the classic movie “Valentine’s Day” with your best gal pals (my plans exactly), there’s something out there for you to wear to celebrate the season. We’re in luck, because stores have a wide variety of Valentine’s Day-related pieces for you to rock on the flower and chocolate-filled day. If you’re going for a night out with a fun and flirty dress, Altar’d State is perfect. They have a wide variety of red dresses, as well as floral ones, so you have options based on your personal style. Additionally, their options will let you choose if you prefer a tighter dress versus a more relaxed, flowing one. Pair with a cute pair of boots or heels and some red lipstick, and you’ll be set. Francesca’s also has an array of Valentine’s Day options, with an entire section online. They do have some dresses, but I am a big fan of some of their red and pink tops that can be paired with jeans or a cute jean skirt. Specifically, they have a red ribbed top with a jean skirt that I think is a super cute ensemble, but you can totally make your own at home with what you have, too. I have a pair of red sandal wedges that I think would look so cute with an outfit like this. Charming Charlie’s is the place for jewelry, with multiple Valentine’s Day-themed earring sets. If you don’t want...
