The group Ready or Not took away the staging category award at Singarama’s matinee show Saturday afternoon in Collins Alumni Auditorium. “We felt great about the win because we worked really hard on our lines, choreography and costumes,” senior Taylor Cao said. “I feel like we deserved it. We are so thankful.” Ready or Not also won the award for theme at Friday night’s opening show. “I was happy with our performance today,” freshman Sheley Hiter said. “I thought we brought a lot of energy. I’m excited to see how sweepstakes goes tonight.” The final showing of Singarama will take place at 7:30 p.m. in Collins Alumni Auditorium, where one team will take away the Singarama Sweepstakes Award. The second annual SGA debates were held in Shamblin Theatre Monday night with SGA and Lumination Network once again co-sponsoring the event. The centerpiece of the evening was the debate between presidential candidates Taylor Cao and Drew Watson. The candidates expressed their opinions on a number of oft-discussed topics on Lipscomb’s campus such as academics, students dealing with the various events held on campus, Lipscomb’s alcohol policy and the school’s parking issues. Watson, the incumbent SGA vice president, touched on his previous experience with SGA, as well what he hopes to implement if elected president. “I think that experience is something that I have, and that is very valuable, especially for the president position,” Watson said. “I think that leading an organization requires you to be knowledgeable about it, be knowledgeable about its functions and about its responsibilities. “I’ve learned a lot this year as vice president, so I definitely think I would be able to hit the ground running this summer.” Watson says he hopes to use the role to be a servant for the Lipscomb community. “I think that the president role should be a means of service, and I believe that I will do a great job serving the student body,” Watson said. “I’m not doing this for the title. I’m not doing this because it will look good on a resume. Taylor Cao For SGA President Experience—that is the first word that pops in my mind. It is the first word I think of when I ask myself why I want to run for President of Lipscomb’s Student Government Association. I acknowledge that I have not been a part of the organization for as long as others; however, Lipscomb is huge part of who I am and has helped me grow into the leader I am today. Being a tour guide for admissions since my freshmen year and a resident assistant in High Rise for the past two years have cultivated my skills as a leader to the student body here at Lipscomb. Communing with the students here is a passion of mine, and I want nothing more than to serve you all this coming year as SGA President. I promise that I will serve you to the best of my ability if elected. I am not here to make any unattainable promises or create unrealistic goals. However, I am here to be an advocate. If I am elected as President of the Student Government Association, I promise that I will be a voice for students. When I mean students, I do not mean just the ones a part of one specific area of campus. I mean everyone from those involved in Greek life, to athletes, to theatre performers, to minority students and everywhere in between. SGA presidential candidates Taylor Cao and Drew Watson will be the central focus of Monday night’s SGA debates. SGA and Lumination Network will be co-sponsoring the event, set to take place in Shamblin Theatre at 6 p.m. All are welcome to attend. Free McDougal’s Chicken will be provided before the program begins. The evening will feature the introductions of all the SGA senate candidates, as well as the candidates for treasurer, secretary and vice president.
